How to interpret New Zealand business data

Choose the geographic level that matches the territory

New Zealand targeting should use region, territorial authority, and the suburb, locality, town, city, or postcode values available in the file. Stats NZ distinguishes 16 regions and 67 territorial authorities, with several unitary authorities performing both regional and territorial functions, so a generic state-and-county hierarchy would be inaccurate.

The CSV is separate from the official business register

A SphereScout row is a public business or trading-location profile, not an NZBN or Companies Register extract. The export includes available contact, category, website, and location values but currently does not include NZBN, company number, ANZSIC code, legal form, company status, officers, employee count, or revenue.

Using business contacts in New Zealand

A public or purchased email address is not blanket permission to send commercial messages. New Zealand's Unsolicited Electronic Messages Act requires express, inferred, or deemed consent. Deemed consent applies only when the address was conspicuously published by the person in a business or official capacity, no statement rejects unsolicited messages, and the message is relevant to that person's business role or duties. The sender carries the burden of proof.

  • Keep recipient-level evidence of express or inferred consent, or retain the original publication and document every condition relied on for deemed consent.
  • Check the source for a no-marketing statement and make the offer directly relevant to the published business, role, function, or duty.
  • Identify the authorizing business accurately and provide contact information that remains valid for at least 30 days after the message is sent.
  • Include a clear, free, functional unsubscribe method and action requests within five working days.
  • Do not use address-harvesting software or lists created with it to send unsolicited commercial electronic messages.
  • When a record is personal information collected indirectly, assess Privacy Act principle 2 and provide the IPP3A notice unless a statutory exception applies; IPP3A has applied to new indirect collection since 1 May 2026.
  • Maintain a suppression list so an unsubscribe or objection is not reintroduced during a later refresh.

The electronic-message consent rules do not create permission for unrelated contact channels. For business calls, identify the caller, keep the purpose relevant, apply the Privacy Act when a number identifies an individual, and stop calling after an objection.

Classify each address before sending

Classify each address before sendingEvidenceEmail treatment
Express or inferred consentDocumented permission or a relationship and conduct that reasonably demonstrate consent for the intended commercial message.Send only within the evidenced scope, identify the sender, include unsubscribe, and preserve the consent record.
Deemed consent evidencedThe address was conspicuously published by the person in a business or official capacity, without a no-unsolicited-message statement, and the proposed message is relevant to the published role or duties.Retain the source and relevance assessment before sending. Identification, unsubscribe, privacy, and suppression duties still apply.
Consent unresolvedA purchased address, missing source page, unclear publisher, no evidence of the publication context, or a message whose relevance cannot be demonstrated.Do not send the commercial email until consent or every deemed-consent condition can be evidenced.

How SphereScout prepares this business contact CSV

SphereScout turns public business profiles into a category-and-location export. The process uses the business categories shown in the current page breakdown and keeps official registers, classifications, licences, and inspections separate from the file.

  1. 1

    Match the displayed business categories

SphereScout selects public business profiles matching the categories shown in the current page breakdown. These labels define the file's scope but do not replace official activity codes or authorizations.

  2. 2

    Structure available public details

SphereScout organizes the available business name, category, location, website, email, phone, and public profile fields, then normalizes and deduplicates contact values for export.

  3. 3

Publish coverage and deliver the CSV

SphereScout refreshes public business profiles regularly, publishes the latest collection date and available coverage totals, and delivers the selected records as a structured CSV.

Questions before choosing a list for New Zealand

Can I buy a business email list for New Zealand by industry?

Yes. Each industry row shows the current business count, the number of businesses with email, a masked sample and the one-time price when available. Open one file or use the custom builder to combine business categories.

Does every New Zealand business profile include an email address?

No. Public email availability varies by industry and business profile. The comparison table shows both the number of businesses with at least one email and their share of all businesses in each file.

Can I narrow a list for New Zealand by location?

Use the custom builder when territory matters. Depending on the public profile, available fields can include region, territorial authority, including a city or district council area and suburb, locality, town, city, or postcode.

Does the New Zealand CSV include official registration numbers or activity codes?

No. A row represents a public business or location profile. The current export does not include NZBN for a registered business; company number additionally identifies a registered company, ANZSIC code, legal form, register status, employee count or revenue.

Does buying the file authorize marketing in New Zealand?

A public or purchased email address is not blanket permission to send commercial messages. New Zealand's Unsolicited Electronic Messages Act requires express, inferred, or deemed consent. Deemed consent applies only when the address was conspicuously published by the person in a business or official capacity, no statement rejects unsolicited messages, and the message is relevant to that person's business role or duties. The sender carries the burden of proof.

How do I receive the file after payment?

Once payment is confirmed, SphereScout prepares your CSV and emails a download link to the address entered at checkout.

Is this a subscription? Are updates included?

No. The listed price is a one-time payment for the file described at checkout. It does not include future updates unless explicitly stated. Platform subscriptions are separate.

Do the email counts guarantee delivery?

No. They count addresses present in the data, not successful deliveries or inbox placements. The percentage of businesses with email is not a deliverability rate.
